Immune Boosting Elixir

Seasonally inspired, using ingredients that support the TCM organs - Lung & Large Intestine - associated with the Autumn season

what you need

  • 2 pears

  • 1-2 inch knob fresh ginger

  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks

  • 5 slices dried reishi mushroom

how to do it

  • chop pears, grate ginger

  • add all ingredients to a pot with 8 ounces of filtered water

  • leave uncovered, bring to a boil

  • once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover & simmer for 20 minutes

  • strain liquid, discard fruit/herbs

  • add honey or sweetner, always enjoy warm

* will last 3-4 days in the fridge, reheat a mug daily for optimal immune function

benefits

  • rou gui (cinnamon sticks)

stabilizes the defensive Qi to protect against viral and bacterial infections. has the ability to disperse cold and stagnation from the channels, which are often implicated in stiff neck & shoulders, headaches, and pain.

  • ling zhi (reishi)

regarded as the 'longevity mushroom', this powerful substance is very nourishing of the cardiovascular system - the Lung and Heart organs in TCM. it has the ability to calm the spirit and settle an overactive mind. ling zhi will also prevent and treat cough.

  • pears

known as one of the most nourishing Lung foods; they are able to clear acute infections and phlegm from the Lungs and throat. When cooked or warmed, they soothe cough & dry throat and are very effective in the treatment of chronic asthma

  • sheng jiang (fresh ginger)

powerfully tonifies Qi and boost the immune system. capable of expelling pathogens - viral or bacterial - before they enter the body. boosts overall energy, central metabolism, and resilience against colds & flus.

food is medicine

diet therapy is one of the most effective and foundational treatments in TCM practice. it is one of my favourite modalities as it is an accessible, affordable and consistent way to incorporate powerful healing into everyday life; putting your health back in your own hands. happy sipping!
